Gary Leonard Skidmore, 59, of Kersey, passed away Monday, March 30, 2015 at Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland. Gary was born on July 9, 1955 in Denver to Julian Leonard and Helene Rose (Fisher) Skidmore.

Gary was raised in the Aspen and Basalt areas and attended Aspen High School. He worked as a police officer for Ault and then served the Kersey Police Department from 1979-1990. He also worked as a Rehabilitation Aide and a Certified Nurse's Assistant. Gary was a volunteer firefighter in Kersey for many years.

Gary Leonard Skidmore, 59, of Kersey, passed away Monday, March 30, 2015 at Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland. Gary was born on July 9, 1955 in Denver to Julian Leonard and Helene Rose (Fisher) Skidmore.

Gary was raised in the Aspen and Basalt areas and attended Aspen High School. He worked as a police officer for Ault and then served the Kersey Police Department from 1979-1990. He also worked as a Rehabilitation Aide and a Certified Nurse's Assistant. Gary was a volunteer firefighter in Kersey for many years.

Gary married his best friend, Roberta "Robbie" Johnson, in Kersey. They were married for 23 years.

Gary served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam conflict and was a member of the NRA. He and his wife were members of the Cowboy Action Shooting Society for many years. He collected all types of military memorabilia and enjoyed everything military. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed restoring old pocket watches and firearms.

Gary was a very loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, who were the joy of his life.

Gary is survived by his wife, Robbie; three daughters, Teri, Brenda and Mary (Ted); three sisters, Julianne (James), Barbara and Patricia; grandchildren, Desirae Marie, Trent Xavier, Paige Lynn, Orlando Julian, Derek Connor and Zachary Franklin and his constant companion, Gunner.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Ginger and brother, Bruce.

Memorial Shoot Competition with Military Honors Celebration of Life will be held in May 2015.
