Billy Eugene Wood, 86, of Greeley, died Sunday, August 6, 2017 at his home. He was born on May 4, 1931 in El Reno, Oklahoma to Robert H. and Edna G. (Landrum) Wood.

Billy moved with his family to Denver when he was in the fifth grade. He graduated from West High School in Denver. After graduation, he entered the U.S. Navy, and served during the Korean War.

On February 6, 1953, he married Phyllis Brown at Hunters Point in San Francisco, California.

Billy Eugene Wood, 86, of Greeley, died Sunday, August 6, 2017 at his home. He was born on May 4, 1931 in El Reno, Oklahoma to Robert H. and Edna G. (Landrum) Wood.

Billy moved with his family to Denver when he was in the fifth grade. He graduated from West High School in Denver. After graduation, he entered the U.S. Navy, and served during the Korean War.

On February 6, 1953, he married Phyllis Brown at Hunters Point in San Francisco, California.

After his discharge he returned to Boulder, where he attended University of Colorado. He graduated with his degree in chemical engineering. After graduation he worked for Ideal Cement. He then started working for Gates Rubber Company, where he worked for several years. Billy was a pioneer in the polyurethane development, and after retiring from Gates Rubber Company, he worked in consulting in Connecticut and Ohio.

After their retirement, Billy and Phyllis moved to Denver. Upon returning to Denver, they worked in guest relations for the Colorado Rockies. They then moved to Greeley in 2002 and have been here since. They were members of First United Methodist Church.

Billy was gentle by nature. His passion was golf, but he loved spending time with his family and being at their cabin in the mountains. He also enjoyed music, University of Colorado football, being outdoors, watching sports; baseball in particular, and crossword puzzles.

Billy is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Greeley; daughters, Gail Austin (Ron Gesick) of Greeley, Kim Willett (Phil) of Aurora and Mary Flack (Mike Ruggles) of Westminster; son, Doug Wood (Linda) of Denver; sisters, June Nash of Colorado Springs and Shirley Wood of Arvada; eight grandchildren and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his sons, Franklin and Jeff Wood, three brothers, Bob, Tom and Raymond, three sisters, Lee Etta, Beth and Gloria and his grandson, Cody.

A Celebration of Life will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Stoddard Funeral Home, 3205 West 28th Street, Greeley, Colorado.
